I like teaching because I am one of the worst students
I know. I get easily distracted or anxious if I feel like something is out
of my reach of understanding. Most of us grew up with teachers who were impatient,
particularly in math, science and sports. A "survival of the fittest"
attitude was usually employed: You either have it or you don't. It's hard
to learn if you feel rushed or stupid. It's easy to learn if you feel calm
and capable.
I therefore believe that a lot of talent and aptitude is based on the teacher
and self esteem. I'm able to appreciate all levels of aptitude and have patience
while teaching. I can work from an advanced level but also like the challenge
of hearing "There's no way I'm going to get this." because I know
everything complicated has a simple origin of explanation.
I am therefore empathetic towards confusion, not frustrated by it.
And, just in case you are getting nervous that you have to learn something
complicated, these software programs are NOT! After my class you will therefore
have the foundational experience to develop and lend your creative voice to
these applications.
